Our patron

The works of Antonio Vivaldi are not only frequently performed in concert halls all over the world, they are also an integral part of instrumental music education. The great majority of pieces for violin written by Vivaldi were devoted to the Ospedale della Pieta in Venice, an orphanage and music school for girls. Here, Vivaldi taught violin, violoncello, viola d'amore and conducted the school orchestra. At the end of his life, seeking success at the Imperial Court, the composer moved to Vienna where he died and was buried in 1741.
